Check Engine Light On?

Should your "Check Engine" light come on it is important that you have it diagnosed immediately. In today's cars the computer monitors every system in the car and will turn on the "Check Engine" light when it detects a problem. That problem can be engine related but it can also be a problem with the transmission, the fuel system or the exhaust. When the computer senses a problem it will set a code and revert to a limited operating condition. This means that your transmission may not shift correctly.

Fluid Leak?

Having the proper amount of transmission fluid is essential to the normal operation of the transmission. Transmission fluid has three main purposes. It transmits power, acts as a heat exchanger and lubricates. A transmission that is leaking can have an adverse effect on any or all of these functions. So, as soon as you detect a leak, it is important that you have the vehicle inspected to determine the source of the leak.

This service is important because a transmission can leak from any one of nine to eleven external areas, many of which are considered minor. We also know that where a transmission leaks from and where it drips can be two different areas. Leaks may be caused by problems other than seals. Leaks, many times, DO NOT indicate a serious problem. On the other hand, leaks may be the result of a more serious mechanical failure. An inspection by a qualified technician is the best way to tell. The important thing is to get those leaks stopped as soon as they become apparent or major trouble is almost sure to follow.

Vehicle Will Not Move?

Why have your vehicle towed in to a AALL TECH Center? Because the first thing we will do is identify why the vehicle stopped. We will check for proper fluid level. We will make certain that all of the linkages and cables that should be connected are connected. We will evaluate the electronics and following all of that, we will make our recommendations. Those recommendations could range from an adjustment to replacing external parts to an internal inspection. However, because of the complexity of most late model vehicles, it would be unwise to condemn the transmission before it is evaluated.

Slipping Gears?

You put the selector into the appropriate range and begin to move forward. Suddenly, you feel the engine racing and the transmission lagging behind. We see this symptom quite often but what is difficult to determine is what is causing the transmission to slip. Transmissions slip for a variety of reasons including low fluid level, poor vacuum or a misadjusted or defective shift cable. When you are faced with this type of symptom, it's best to have it checked out by the professionals at AALL TECH.

Erratic Shifting?

Erratic shifting is a relatively common symptom that your AALL TECH representative sees on a daily basis. Years ago, before transmissions became more complex, evaluating a vehicle that was shifting erratically was a relatively simple process. However, with the introduction of electronics, it requires the expertise of a trained and qualified technician.

As transmissions today are more complex, it is important not to condemn the transmission solely on the basis of the symptom you feel. Many times our customers call with what appears to be a serious problem and it turns out to be something simple. Low fluid level, cable adjustments, and electronics are just a few of the areas that need to be checked. The clutch pedal won't go down

If the clutch pedal will not move down do not attempt to shift gears or force the pedal down. Have the car towed to your local AALL TECH service centre

You can't shift gears

The clutch pedal drops to the floor when you push on it. Even when the pedal is depressed the gears cannot be changed. The problem occurs suddenly, or changing gears becomes more difficult each time you shift. Do not attempt to shift gears or force the pedal down. Have the car towed to your local AALL TECH transmission service centre.

• The clutch cable is broken
• The clutch cable is disconnected
• There is no fluid in the hydraulic clutch circuit
• There is a leak in the hydraulic clutch circuit

The clutch pedal feels normal, but you can’t shift gears

The gearshift suddenly will not move, or it resists, as you push in the clutch pedal. Do not attempt to drive this vehicle. Have it towed to the nearest AALL TECH service centre.

• The clutch may not be disengaging

The transmission pops out of gear

When you press on or let off the gas pedal the gearshift jumps into the neutral position, leaving the transmission out of gear. This problem occurs with more frequency over time.

Transmission grinds while shifting gears

The clutch pedal and gearshift work normally. When you move the gearshift into gear and release the clutch a grinding noise is heard and a vibration can be felt through the gearshift. The problem will only get worse over time and eventually will cause severe damage to your transmission.

Most transmission troubles start after overheating. At higher temperatures the transmission fluid burns loosing its lubricating qualities and becomes oxidized leaving deposits all over inside the transmission. Exposed to the heat the rubber seals and gaskets inside the transmission become hardened causing leaks. The metal parts warp and lose their strength. All this, sooner or later, results in transmission failure.

The automatic transmission is one of the most complicated parts of the vehicle. The repair of an automatic transmission is complex. More than that, transmission problems can make your car unsafe as vehicles may roll in the Parking mode or drive forward in Neutral mode.
